Merddin Emrys at Duffws, with Little Wonder to the right with permission of Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru/ National Library of Wales
A nearly new Merddin Emrys at Duffws circa 1880 (and to the right lurks Little Wonder). Small, square, sandboxes are fitted to the top end of the locomotive only. Behind, a mixture of Mk1(b) and Mk2(a) quarrymen's carriages form the rake for the Saturday afternoon Down train, with Railway Police Constable Thomas H. Hovendon carefully posing himself by the engine. This is a good record of the loco crew uniforms of the period - pilot cloth waistcoats, light cotton jackets, kepi caps.
